Mariska Hargitay Likely to Ink Final Season Deal for ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 15
May 23, 2013
The words “Her Negotiation” ring true as we’ve heard it’s likely Mariska Hargitay is choosing to portray Detective Olivia Benson one final season; assuming she’s not dead or in a coma after last night’s finale – which garnered a moderate 6.66 million viewers total, and a 1.7 in the 18-49 age demographic, down from last season’s finale which earned over 7 million and a 2.0 in the demo, guess SVU’s writers should have put another prostitute in Captain Cragen’s (Dann Florek) bed!
We don’t know the full details of her deal (such as if it’s all season or half of it, as speculated about her return without Meloni in season 13), we just know it’s likely her final one for SVU. Last month we spoke to a rep. for SVU who said “[…] people said we’d be gone when Chris Meloni left, we’ll still be here if Mariska leaves.”
That been said, I’m curious to see what the SVU producers come up with on how to start [and end] season 15. As for Mariska, she’s played Benson for 15 years, and although I’d personally be sad if she left, I’d respect her decision to do so, she does have a family outside of SVU, plus her organization, The Joyful Heart Foundation. Since she’s coming back this season, Warren Leight hasn’t “killed her off”, I just hope his intentions aren’t to try writing another “Her Negotiation” next year, I’d rather Benson turn in her badge and walk unscathed.
And jumping the gun here, I’m curious as well to see how Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish would do as the lead detectives. I’m sure if Leight and his team continued to write gripping episodes like “Lost Reputation/Above Suspicion” and “Deadly Ambition”, Pino and Giddish would be one powerful detective duo in the remaining L&O franchise, but of course, they’d still have nothing on the earlier [or even the later] years of Benson and Stabler.
I guess next season we should begin preparing to say “good-bye” to Mariska from SVU.
NBC’s SVU’s Season 15 returns this Fall, Wednesdays 9/8c. Hit those comments with love and good luck to Mariska!
