NBC: ‘Grimm’ and ‘Revolution’ Locks For Renewal, ‘Parenthood’ Possibly Returning, ‘Smash’ and ‘Deception’ Likely Not Returning

More from NBC’s renewal-cancellation front, NBC’s Friday supernatural thriller Grimm is a lock for renewal, but next season it is a wonder what time will its home be next season. April 30th, Grimm moves to Tuesday 10/9c (a time slot which was previously occupied by: Ready for Love, Smash, Parenthood) under The Voice and will remain there through May 21st (it’s second season finale), Ready for Love bombed after one airing and was pulled after two – is anyone really surprised? Didn’t think so.

Hopefully no one will have to sing “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Try To Fix It” to this risky, yet sensible move by NBC.

NBC’s #1 new drama Revolution is looking good for a sophomore season renewal as well, but after a preemption this past week, the season finale has been pushed to June 3rd at 10/9c.

Smash which was NBC’s “Smash hit” last season, well… do I have to say it? It crashed! It’s move to Saturday is a true sign that it’s been canceled, but moves to Saturday’s are never announced as cancellations. Sorry Smash fans, but there won’t be another curtain call. But new show runner Joshua Safran has said to TV Line that the season finale is going to be shaped as a series finale, so fans do get a sense of closure to this show. Fans of most NBC shows (Law & Order, Mercy, Harry’s Law, Prime Suspect, Awake fans are you still there – of course you are) aren’t as lucky.

NBC prime time soap Deception is another one of those unlucky ones, it’s audience fell after the premiere episode of the 11-episode season. I think NBC should just stick with Days [of our Lives] DURING the Days.

Parenthood had a dip in ratings this season, but nothing nearly as bad as Smash’s was. If I were NBC and the producers, I would discuss making plans for season 5 to be the final season, in case there is a further decline next season.

What do you think? Should Smash get a second chance – although unlikely – next season, or should it remain canceled? Hit them comments down there!

  1. SMASH should get another season! Incredible music and vocal performances; quality acting and writing – I am never not wowed by that show. People need to watch! NBC, bring SMASH back!
